Walking the Vanguard Way

For 3 days in mid September 2009 I walked the Vanguard Way from East Croydon (London) to Newhaven (on the south coast) – 66 miles incorporating the North Downs, Ashdown Forest and the South Downs.

[View with PicLens]
The start: East Croydon railway station
Navigating the streets of Croydon
An early landmark of a water tower
Keeping on the right track
The first expanse of green though it does not last for long
Frisbee golf!
Littleheath Wood, the London Loop is perhaps a future walk
Littleheath Wood
Farleigh Church
A rather hazy view of London from Nore Hill - the arch of Wembley Stadium is just visible
The wall near Flint House, the round brick balls are fabulous
View to the south from the North Downs looking over the M25
View looking west along the North Downs with the M25
A big sand pit
Better weather and nicer countryside heading into Sussex
A field of stubble looking towards the South Downs
Pasture
Signpost pointing the way across a golf course at Forest Row
Trig point on Ashdown Forest
Ashdown Forest
Heading south off Ashdown Forest
A sense of deja vu, I have been here before on the Wealdway!
Lots of turf!
Which way?!?!
Alpacas
Getting closer to the South Downs
Progress halted for a short while at Berwick
Alfriston Church
High and Over White Horse
Cuckmere Haven
Seven Sisters from Cuckmere Haven
Memorial above Cuckmere Haven
Seaford Head looking west towards Seaford and Newhaven - the end is in sight
Deja vu again!
